One of the goals of the European energetic strategy is to secure a availability and stability of energy supply, especially that of electrical. However, increasing dependence of EU on import of fossil fuels makes this goal hardly achievable. Sudden political instability and potential conflicts in the export countries could result in breakdown of the fossil fuels supply system and therefore threaten the proper functioning of European economies. This challenge is also an opportunity for development of European nuclear energetics. Research and development in this sector would also spill over to other industrial sectors.
