Wild Card's description:
Research interests of Universities do not meet the needs of Industry and there is a large divide between industries wanting to work with Academic institutions. This lack of technology transfer leads to industry-led research in the private sector and a complete breakdown of working relationships with Universities. The financial loss to Universities is catastrophic.
Perhaps the wording could be clearer, but there is most definitely a 'divide' between industry and academia in terms of managing the expectations of research outputs. Most industries are keen to utlise the outputs of research and development in a practical way, and this is not often the case for universities, who see the results as an opportunity to publish papers rather than exploit technology which is of limited interest in the industrial world.

the wording is not very clear. What 'divide'?? anyway the conclusion is ok but somewhat in line with the current trends.
