Wild Card's description:

Personal futures planning toolkits with “success stories” (e.g. how-to guides and case studies from experts and celebrities) become widely available and used. Social movements emerge, with individuals and civil society groups making medium-to-long-term decisions aimed at shaping their future. Non-fatalistic and proactive attitudes towards change (also promoted in life-long learning programmes) lead to a global debate about the actual role and usefulness of traditional established religion and self-help groups. In effect, a new “do-it-yourself” (DIY) futures movement overtakes organised religious groups, though some are willing to adapt, assimilate, and offer new “brands” of such techniques themselves.

Personal Futures and long-term thinking could have a huge, positive impact on teens and early twenties. A few small examples

One indicator would be declining school dropout rates as young people begin to understand the impact of quitting school on the rest of their lives. In this age group, declining teen pregnancy rates and declining teen crime rates could also be indicators of a growing understanding of the importance of long term self interest.

Another indicator for this age group would be declining gang membership as the result of young people ingthe risks and future impacts that gang memberships carry.

Later in life, an indicator to watch will be work-force (paid and volunteer) participation after age 65. An increase in participation of older workers would suggest an understanding of the value of staying engaged with life beyond the normal retirement age.
