“Could Europe’s nanodreams come true?” - Based on lessons learned from Europe’s GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) success in the 1980s, an influential European consortium develops standards for nanotechnologies, nanomaterials and methods for monitoring health risks. As a result, a memorandum of understanding is signed by major nanotechnology players in Europe (including Russia) to jointly develop a common Global System for Safe Nanotechnologies (GSSN).
