Johannes Gadner is deputy managing director of the office of the Austrian Council of Research and technology Development. He has been on the team of the office since 2007 and is working as scientific advisor to the Council. He is responsible for the preparation of the Council’s annual report on Austria’s scientific and technological performance capability. Another main task is coordinating long-term oriented strategic processes. As scientific expert he advised and assisted the RTI-secretariat of the Austrian Federal Chancellery in coordinating the development of the Strategy for Research, Technology and Innovation of the Federal Government in 2010.
Johannes Gadner grew up in Berlin, Zurich and Vienna, where he finished high school in 1989. Following his studies at the University of Vienna, the Free University Berlin and at the University College London (UCL) he received his PhD from the Department for the Philosophy of Science and the Social Studies of Science at the University of Vienna.
From 1997, he worked as researcher at UCL and the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck. In 2001, together with an interdisciplinary team, he co-founded the Institute of Knowledge Organisation (IWO) in Vienna, where he held the position of the general manager. Before joining the team of the Austrian Council, he was parliamentary advisor for science and research in the Green Party faction in the Austrian Parliament.
